With 18 inches of fresh snow on the ground, the thought of spring flowers seems like a dream right now. I decided to go back and find some old photos from last spring that I had never used in our Flower Friday posts and share those today. While the dogs are thrilled with the new snow, I’m tending more to daydream of spring and the color it will bring to our world. One of the first flowers to bloom will be lilacs.
Unfortunately, the bush seen in this photo is gone. My hubby cut it down because it was growing into the house, trying desperately to get to some sun. It really wasn’t doing very well, and we still have two smaller bushes left so we should still see some of these this spring!
My love of many flowers comes from the fact that we had them in our yard when I was growing up; so many of my favorites were favorites of my mother as well. Ground phlox are one of those flowers, and I was happy to see these come up alongside our house not long after we first moved in.
This next flower is called Centaurea.
They were new to me at this house, but I have quickly come to love them. They are attractive to bees and butterflies, and if you look closely in the photo (lower right) you can see that even the buds are pretty!
Irises are another flower my mother loved, and these seen here were larger than any I’ve ever seen, probably about 4 inches across!
While this next photo of our Persian lilacs was shared in our post of last spring “Prolific Beauty“, I’m sharing it now to show you the contrast of the view on our patio back then…..and the view right now.
Are you enjoying spring flowers where you are, or just dreaming of them like us?
