It was just a year ago that I first posted about Samantha’s health issues and how she gave us a scare. She had been diagnosed hyperthyroid, put on meds, and then stopped eating. A vet visit found a thickening of her stomach wall, but blood tests turned up nothing concerning beyond the thyroid. Our vets recommended having an endoscopy, but the Dadz and I decided we did not want to put her through that (cancer was suspected).
We ended up putting her on prednisolone for a short time and that brought her appetite back and things settled down; she’s been doing great since. The only concern I have right now is that she seems to be drinking a lot of water (she’s also been hacking up some hairballs but that’s not unusual for her). I believe that excess water drinking can be a sign of thyroid issues. Since she is due at the end of May for her T4 blood test anyway to check her thyroid I am just going to bring her in sooner and I suspect they will want to move the blood test up which is what I’d like to do. She may need an adjustment in her meds.
One year ago she was mostly hanging out in our master bathroom at the old house, now she is finding new favorite places in the new house. This little sofa on top of one of the Dadz’ coats is one of the favorites. This room is upstairs where the dogs don’t go. We haven’t finished cleaning out or arranging this area yet, but that doesn’t seem to bother her!
Come back on “Sam Sunday” and see where else she’s hanging out (hint: one of those places is somewhere I didn’t want her to go in the new house!).
