We’re getting hard pressed to find new things to photograph for Nature Friday. We’re bored with all the snow photos, even though it’s still been pretty out in the woods with snow covering the trees. We haven’t gotten any big storms lately, but we’ve had some smaller ones. It’s been enough that Snow Mountain has now outdone itself. The inset photo is from March of last year, we had shared it in one of our last Nature posts, where I wondered if this March would outdo last year’s and it has!
On the bright side, the temperatures have been warmer! Luke and I have been out walking much more, but there is still a lot of snow on the ground. We keep having to chase the guinea hens out of the road, because if they are not up in the trees to get out of the snow that’s where they go. Luckily our dirt road is so muddy right now, vehicles can’t go very quickly. However, I was just outside before writing this, bribing the guinea hens out of the road with a bag of dried worms because the oil truck going by had to beep at them when they wouldn’t get out of the way!!
I did find these couple of birds’ nests when outside with Luke in the yard. It’s fun to see them, because in the summer with the leaves on, you can’t! Though we did know there were birds nesting there, because we’d see them flitting in and out of the bushes.
It seems snow is covering their little homes too. 🙂 I wonder if they come back and use the same nests again? I do know there is a nest in the barberry bush every year, though I think they make new ones. It’s the only reason I don’t ask my hubby to cut that bush down!
We can sense that spring is on the way. The snow is melting, just very slowly, and as you can see there’s a lot to go! Some days I feel like we’ll never have smooth trails, see out our kitchen window, or see our gardens or anything green again. However, hope springs eternal, as it does every March.
