We’ve had a pair of cardinals hanging out at our bird feeders most of the winter, and a couple of weeks ago I tried to get some photographs of them. Something else surprising showed up in there instead. I’m sorry the photo quality isn’t better, but I had to take the photos through the window.

Why yes, I believe that is an American Robin!! The robin has long been heralded as a harbinger of spring in New England, but the truth is some of them do spend the winter here. So as much as I’d like that robin to be a sign that spring is almost here, I’m afraid it’s probably not. Oh well, it was fun seeing it anyway, and imagining that spring is just around the corner, even though it’s single digit wind chills today!
I was so excited about the robin, I never did get the female cardinal in the photo!
